Swimming Lessons

Written on January 1, 2013 – 7:57 pm | by Mommy Rubz |

People are able to hold their breath underwater due to the natural buoyancy of the human body. This floating effect varies depending on the person’s body composition. There are lots of reasons why humans swim and it can be for survival, sport, exercise, or for recreational purposes. The last mentioned is the most prominent reason of all. Swimming is an aerobic exercise where oxygen is required to supply the muscles. It is believed that this can improve one’s posture and
reduce stress. Swimming can also be good for children by preparing them for emergencies like falling into the water.

Fundamentally, swimming is one of the best recreational activities and that is why it is compulsory that schools offer students swim lessons. Many swimming movements require coordination of the limbs, body, arms, and legs. There are different strokes in swimming that are learned when taking swim lessons. The main strokes are the breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and freestyle or front crawl. There are also strokes specifically used for training or rescue. Some of the accessories for swimming include goggles for protection of the eyes, swim caps for the hair, nose clips for preventing water from entering the nose, ear plugs for preventing water from getting into the ears, and floats and boards for training or exercising purposes.
